Learning in Community: Carnivals Etc.

One way I fuel our LGL community is connect and learn with leadership experts, reading their insights and talking through challenges. I’ve become a big fan of carnivals, where leadership bloggers share their “best of posts.” I share many carnivals on my Facebook page.

The newest carnival, is from the Lead With Giants community, Best of Lead With Giants. It’s a fantastic collection, written by many people I have been collaborating with and learning from.

Each Wednesday, Wally Bock picks 5 Business Leadership Posts to share. Always an amazing collection from people I admire.

For those of you interested in questions as a leadership tool, I’ve been intrigued by Bob Tiede’s blog, Leading With Questions dedicated entirely to helping leaders ask good questions. He shared one of my earliest posts on questions in his blog this week, What’s Your Leadership Magic?

  1. @Karin. I care here we for leaders of this blog and their effect. A leader is a motivator, engaged and keeps readers engaged, passionate, has repeat clients (repeat comments by many others as they keep commenting), encourages dialogue, attracts new readers and commenter and creates a healthy blog environment.
    If I wish to add one dimension that is missing here then seeing the forest and the tree. The trees we all see. They are individual comments. But, what is the overall picture?

    There are comments with no moments

    And there are huge number of comments

    But, collectively they may be analyzed to give a different perspective

    Conclusion- on every item Karin provides a great example of powerful and passionate leaders.
    I wish only she would add the seeing the forest approach for the very many comments she receives.

  2. Ali, the comments and engagement (particularly between readers) is my very favorite part of the community. When an idea draws a response, I know folks have started thinking… and that’s my goal.

    I love your idea of collaboration with every one build a slide…. that was cool. This is similar to what I am looking to accomplish with the Frontline Festival on a given topic each month. I would love to have you contribute a slideshare to that… do you have one on conflict? June is conflict. I am always open for new ideas on how to create more engagement, since that is my main goal.

    • Karin. Thanks for your deep comment. I like that you read and then comment. It is obvious that you read the presentations. Yes, the idea of authors sharing one or more slide to a presentation gives feeling of ownership. It has been a great experience. may be we collect comments into a presentation. The main idea is your selected post and the comments to be arranged according to their relevance. I do not think it has been tried before.

      As for conflict, I have done some work some time ago. I prefer to contribute to a topic that I have researched recently. I shall definitely and gratefully contribute to the July issue.
