Help Your Team Envision a Year They’ll Be Proud of
You’re kicking off a fresh new year with your team, and you want to do more than just run through goals and set stretch KPIs. You’re looking for a visioning activity that creates space for real conversation—something that helps your people pause, reflect, and think about the year ahead in a way that feels personal, purposeful, and energizing.
If you are looking for a team activity that connects the dots between business outcomes and what matters most to each person as a human. This is a team builder I’ve used with teams for two decades, and I’m always amazed by the outcomes.

It Starts with a Letter to Future You
Have each person write a letter to themselves.
But here’s the twist: it’s written from the vantage point of a year from now, looking back on the year that’s about to begin.
They start with something like:
“Dear [Your Name], I’m so proud of what you’ve done this year…”
And then encourage them to consider.
What did they accomplish that made a difference?
What did they learn, lead, or shift?
Here are a few prompts that work well (or make up your own)
-
“I’m proud of how I handled…”
-
“I stepped into…”
-
“I took care of my energy by…”
Then give them some space.
Ten, maybe fifteen minutes of quiet time to reflect and write, and then share their letters.
That’s often where the magic starts—when people hear what’s meaningful to each other, and consider ways they can be supportive.
You start to hear what matters most—not just in the work, but in life. And suddenly the team feels a little more grounded, a little more human.
Why it works
This visioning activity gives your team a chance to pause and look ahead—with purpose.
They’re not just reacting to goals—they’re shaping their own.
They’re not just thinking about tasks—they’re thinking about impact.
And when people share, even briefly, it builds connection. Because now they’re not just colleagues—they’re witnesses to each other’s vision for the year.
If you’re looking to kick things off with intention—start here.
One quiet moment. A simple letter. A conversation worth having.
